Parks play a crucial role in any community. They have a meaningful impact on a child’s development, support healthy living, and provide significant happiness to everyone in the surrounding neighborhood. First proposed in 2016, the town of Conception Bay South, NL, Canada embarked on a project that will play a favorable role in this community for years to come.
Accessibility, community health, and wellness were considerations in all phases of implementation for the park project. An inclusive play space and swing set welcomes people and children of all abilities to play, learn, and grow together. Accessible walking trails and community parking were also included.
With Phase 2 completion, a dual splash pad and ice skating surface will be added to the park as well as a performance stage. A service building that includes change rooms, washrooms, and the controls for the splash pad and ice skating rink will be housed within the service building.
The Town also planned the park development with a conservational lens. Environmental conditions and care were “taken to set elevations, ensure proper drainage and prevent seawater inundation.” The weather was closely monitored ensuring that there were no meaningful impacts to the land and significant thought went into the landscape materials and plants throughout the park. The service building is equipped with a HERO 250H-EC fresh air appliance for balanced ventilation and the circulation of clean fresh air.
With this park, “the Town of Conception Bay South is able to build on its vision of being a family-orientated community of choice,” stated His Worship Terry French Mayor of Conception Bay South. “Having a safe and welcoming space where all children can play is very important and Council believes that everyone, especially every child, should be given equal opportunity.”
The Town of Conception Bay South is located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Completion of the park is expected soon.
