MUAS Makeup air system

Makeup air systems for balancing residential kitchen exhaust

  • Variable supply airflow automatically in proportion to the exhaust

  • Provides the exact amount of air needed

  • Filters outdoor particles before fresh air is delivered to the home

  • Optional inline duct heater to temper cold incoming outdoor air

  • Flexible installation options within ductwork (MUAS 750 and MUAS 1200)

  • Unitary system with external shut-off damper (MUAS 8 and MUAS 10)

  • MUAS 8 and MUAS 10 are ready to be specified now and available to ship in December 2024

Automatic Airflow Adjustment

The makeup air system and controller automatically adjust the supply airflow proportionately to the kitchen exhaust.

Enhanced Indoor Air Quality

The system filters outdoor particles effectively removing contaminants and pollutants before delivering fresh air into the home.

Versatile Installation

The MUAS is designed to be installed however it fits best within the application. The system can be designed in a linear path, or, with enough ductwork, can be installed in a snake-like formation.

Complies with Code Requirements

The system meets requirements for makeup air, ensuring that exhaust systems are mechanically provided with an appropriate amount of makeup air to balance the air pressure and maintain indoor air quality in the home.

Powerful, vented range hoods exhaust smoke and grease from the kitchen to the outdoors, but an equal amount of supply air needs to enter the home to keep pressure levels balanced and avoid drawing air in from poorly suited places, such as chimneys, plumbing vent pipes, or even your garage.

Supplying air back into the building can be done a few different ways and can be as simple as opening a window or door. However, these methods introduce potentially freezing cold air or unfiltered air into the building. The best solution is to install a MUAS that can also reduce a home’s energy bill by providing a balanced pressure scheme.

The MUAS includes an EC-motor inline duct fan, a metal intake wall hood, a motorized shut-off damper, a filter cabinet with a pleated MERV 11 filter, a duct silencer, and 3 pairs of mounting clamps.

Each MUAS comes equipped with a Fantech Makeup Air Controller (FMAC). The FMAC provides automatic operation of the Makeup Air System. The makeup air flow rate automatically and infinitely varies proportionally with the speed at which the exhaust is operated by the homeowner. A neutral (balanced) pressure scheme is common, but the installer can also employ a slightly positive or negative pressure scheme should it be desired.

Every time you cook, you need to exhaust air and smoke to the outside. The amount of exhaust air required depends on the type and size of the range. But where does this air come from? In a tightly sealed home, the air will try to fight its way in through cracks, gaps, and leaky vents.

The only real solution is to install an active Makeup Air System that compensates for the equivalent amount of exhaust air.
