Help Ensure Safety in Laundry Rooms

Lint ignition in residential clothes dryers is the leading cause of the nearly 16,000 annual washer/dryer fires in the U.S. each year, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Even if the dryer screens are cleaned after each use, flammable lint can make its way out of the appliance and into the ductwork, where it builds up. Regular maintenance is one component of prevention.

The UL-listed DEDPV-705 Dryer Exhaust Duct Power Ventilator provides peace of mind along with even greater flexibility than previous models.

DEDPV Makes Residential Clothes Dryers Run More Efficiently

The DEDPV helps residential clothes dryers run more efficiently by assisting them in overcoming pressure losses caused by long or restricting exhaust duct designs and the effects of high altitudes.

The longer duct runs the longer the drying time. The higher the exhaust rate the shorter the drying time.

The product complies with the UL standard related to dryer exhaust (UL 705) and is suitable for gas and electric clothes dryers.

DBLT 4W

Clothes dryer lint is combustible. Given the right conditions, it can self-ignite. The secondary lint trap DBLT 4W installed on the exhaust duct helps reduce the risk of fire.

DEDPV-705

The dryer exhaust duct power ventilator helps the dryer run more efficiently by overcoming pressure losses caused by long or restricted exhaust duct designs and/or from the effects of high altitude.

Regulations and Calculations

Important to know

What Does the International Residential Code (IRC) Say?

Section M1502, Clothes Dryer Exhaust in the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC) states:

  • The maximum allowable exhaust duct length shall be 35 ft from the connection to the transition duct from the dryer to the outlet terminal.

  • Where fittings are used, the maximum length of the exhaust duct shall be reduced.

  • Otherwise, a domestic dryer exhaust duct power ventilator shall be installed. It shall conform to UL705 for use in residential dryer exhaust systems.

Domestic booster fans shall not be installed in dryer exhaust systems (M1502.4.5)

How to Calculate Equivalent Duct Length?

Leq (ft) = Lactual + 5 ft (number of 90o elbow) + 2-1/2 ft (number of 45o elbow)

Once you have the actual length, you need to count every place the duct changes direction.

  • For every 90o 4" dia. elbow, add 5 feet

  • For every 45o 4" dia. elbow, add 2 1/2 feet

For example, your ductwork has an actual length of 25 feet, two 90o turns, and two 45o turns.

Leq (ft) = 25 + 5 ft 2 + 2-1/2 ft 2 = 40 linear feet

In this case, the dryer needs a dryer exhaust duct power ventilator (DEDPV).

Discovery Questions

Good to know

Is the product suitable for vented gas clothes dryers?

Yes, it is. DEDPV-705 & DPV22-2 are listed for use with vented gas dryers.

I used Fantech duct boosters on all my projects in the past. What's wrong with that?

Duct boosters are not compliant with IRC, section M1502.4.5 which says, "domestic booster fans shall not be installed in dryer exhaust systems."

Dryer manufacturers state that booster fans can not be used. Is that true?

Some dryer manufacturers state that dryer booster fans should not be used with their dryers. They echo the IRC. DEDPVs can be used though.
